The gallbladder is an organ that stores and releases bile in the digestive tract. Bile aids the digestive process by breaking down fat from food passed in the intestines and facilitating the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins and nutrients.
When one of these processes is altered, you may develop a number of gallbladder problems (such as gallstones), which manifest as pain in the upper right side of the abdomen. Pain from gallbladder inflammation is often treated with anti-inflammatory drugs, but here are some more natural alternatives:
- Regular physical activity can reduce cholesterol levels and help prevent gallstone formation. Although small, gallstones can cause severe inflammation, pain and infection. Maintaining a healthy weight and engaging in physical activity can reduce gallbladder pain
- Changing diet. Poor eating habits and consumption of foods high in sugar and fat can contribute to gallbladder disease and gallstones. A diet with less fat and more fiber can prevent gallstones and improve your health
- Mint herbal tea. Peppermint contains menthol, a soothing compound that promotes pain relief. Can be used to relieve stomach pain, improve digestion and relieve nausea
- Consume apple cider vinegar. Raw apple cider vinegar contains anti-inflammatory properties that could be helpful in relieving gallbladder pain. To treat gallbladder pain, dissolve 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar with warm water. Sip this tonic until the pain subsides. It is important not to drink pure apple cider vinegar, as the acid can damage teeth
- Use turmeric. Turmeric is a spice used to treat many health conditions. Turmeric contains curcumin, known for its anti-inflammatory and healing benefits. Turmeric stimulates the gallbladder to produce bile and helps the gallbladder empty. Including turmeric in the diet can also reduce inflammation and gallbladder pain
